So I heard you want to learn how to use the new PlayTcg.me webite! Well, you came to the right place. PlayTcg has been a growing hit in the Pokemon TCG community as of lately and in my opinion it is absolutely the best form of Pokemon TCG simulator. Redshark and Apprentice are definitely left behind in the dust thanks to this. With PlayTcg, you don't need to hassle with Hamachi, you don't have to mess with downloading patches and my favorite part is that PlayTcg gives you the images of all the cards.
In this tutorial, I will tell you how to sign up, make your decklist, create a game and how to play a game.
In this tutorial, you will NOT learn how to make good decklists or how to play Pokemon TCG well, however, repeated use with this program can help!
:::GETTING STARTED:::
What do you need to get started playing on this fancy simulator? Well, the biggest thing you'll need is an account with
http://www.bebessearch.com. When you go to playtcg.me, and select 'Play', it will ask you for your username and password and give you how to sign up.
Another big thing that you will need in order to play this is to have a web browser that ISN'T Internet Explorer, trust me, you're better off without it anyways. Google Chrome is the most recommended browser to use, and it's worth it to have. However, if you do not like Google for some odd reason, newer versions of Firefox, Safari and Opera all will work. What I can't wait for it when they can make it work with iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Droids!
Now that you have your account, you can go to bebessearch.com and make decks under the 'Decklists' tab. This is where you will get decks to play with in the PlayTcg program. Making a deck is super simple, all you do is select which cards you want to use and how many and press add card. Mind you, Playtcg warns you that some game mechanics don't work in the game, such as placing cards on the bottom of your deck and manipulating your opponent's deck.
Once you have that special deck you want to test or play or compete with, login to the playtcg.me website. The first page will tell you about the web browsers that work with the program, game mechanics that won't work and have a link to continue to game. Click continue to game.
After you click that, you'll be on a screen that shows open public games that you can join and if you have any games running, it will have a portal to connect back to any games you have. In the case that you have to leave or if your computer freezes, or any other reason, you can come back to the game by pressing that link. The last item on this screen is a button that will allow you to create your own game.
:::CREATING A GAME:::
To create a game, simply click 'New Game'. Now, after this, you'll find yourself at a screen that will allow you to select your deck. At the top of the Choose Your Decklist box, you have to option to make your game public or private. By default, the box is checked, making your game private. To make your game public, just uncheck the box! Choose which deck you want to use by pressing Create.
Now, you wait for your opponent to join. For a private game, you will need to copy the given link for your opponent to copy and paste into their web browser or if you made your game public, just wait for an opponent.
To join a game, either select so under the Public matches or copy and paste the link provided to you by your opponent.
The public matches section in the PlayTcg.me lobby will show the play's username and where they are from.
:::PLAYING A GAME:::
Once you join a game or have an opponent join your game, you can get started!
As you can see, when the game first begins, you will be on a nice table top, with your nice blue playmat. You will have a little dialogue box and a button that says menu.
Under Menu you have a list of tabs that will help you out very much.
GAME:
New - This will shuffle all cards in your play area, prizes and hand into your deck and get your ready to set up a new game.
Setup - This will draw you seven cards and place six prizes.
DRAW:
You have the option to draw a certain amount of cards depending on which amount you choose.
SEARCH:
Search Deck - This brings up a window showing you every card in your deck.
Search Discard Pile - This will bring up a window showing you every card in your discard pile.
Search Opponent's Discard Pile - This will bring up a window showing you ever card in your opponent's discard pile. This is organized.
ACTIVE: Discard Active - This will discard everything in the Active box. Just easier than dragging every card to your discard pile.
HAND: Return - This will shuffle your hand into your deck.
Show Opponent/Hide Opponent - This will reveal or hide your hand.
Arrange - This puts all the cards in your hand to the right of your screen and makes it easier to look at.
Compress - This compresses the cards in your hand. Useful if you have 7000 cards in your hand.
DECK:
This allows you to shuffle your deck.
PRIZES: Place 6 - This will give you 6 prizes.
Look at Prizes - This will show you your prizes.
MARKERS:
Clean up will clear all markers in play.
MISC:
This is like the Missingno of the Menu, there's a lot about it that is
Unown.
At the bottom of your screen, you will notice a dice/damage counters/special condition markers. Just drag them off to use them. To roll the die, drag it on the board. To use a marker, drag it on a Pokemon. To use the damage counters, drag it to a Pokemon and as you hover over it, there will be a small button that has the +/- sign, when you click it, it will ask you which number you want it to display.
Now that you know what everything does, all you do it play a game of the Pokemon Trading Card Game by using your mouse to drag cards around!
:::USING PLAYTCG.ME FOR HEYTRAINER TOURNAMENTS:::
To use this neat program for a Heytrainer tournament, what you will need to do is refer to the instructions above to make a private game and send the provided game link to your opponent. Making a private game should work, but in the case that for some odd reason you can't connect and you make a public game, your opponent should be waiting in the lobby and know your username. The suggested way is to just use a private match, because they pretty much always work. If it doesn't create a new game and use the new link provided.
:::OTHER INFORMATION::: Solitaire: To play a solitaire game, make a private game and copy the provided link into another window or tab on your browser. You can even play against yourself!
